We had a very busy day in KL today, starting at 8am and not getting back to the ship till 5.30pm, dinnertime! I did not go to the dining room as it was late by the time I had tidied up changed to something more presentable. I had a salad and roast pork, with cappuccino cake to follow, tasted quite nice.
It takes a good hour to drive in to KL. On the way we stopped at the Blue Mosque, it is quite beautiful, we took some photos, then continued on. Next we stopped at the National Monument commemorating the wars. After this we stopped at the National Museum with displays from Stone Age to The Colonial Days. I saw this last year also, I remembered as we walked through, very interesting. I also found a beautiful kitten in a tree.
The 1st of June this year is the Kings Birthday, so we visited his new palace which opened last year. We arrived as the changing of the guard was just happening. Because of the birthday there was a tent set up in the car park with a group of police officers. It is a beautiful building. For lunch we were taken to a hotel where we had Chinese, Malay, and western dishes and could pick what we wanted.
After lunch we photographed the Petronas Twin Towers and travelled to the KL Tower for a visit. There was a long wait to get to the top of the tower. Because of the Kings Birthday it was a national holiday and 'everybody' had the same idea. It took nearly an hour to get up, having a look and take some photos, then another 45 minutes waiting for the lift to come down again. There was room for 12 people in the lift and each time it came up, 20 would move forward. In the end the people coming up could hardly get out to let us in, a bit of a shambles. We were 40 min later leaving than expected, hence we missed early dinner in the dining room.
But now I feel ready for bed.
